Come on, Baby, Do the Locomotion
Getting to New Orleans
New Orleans is served by Louis Armstrong International Airport, the airport with the best name and the worst web site in the world. The airport code is MSY. Most major airlines fly there, and Southwest often has good deals.
Getting from the Airport to Downtown New Orleans
The airport is about 30-45 minutes from downtown New Orleans depending on traffic. If you don't have a rental car, a cab ride costs $33 from the airport to the Central Business District (location of the InterContinental, very close to Bienville) for one or two persons and $14 per passenger for three or more passengers. Pick-up is on the lower level, outside the baggage claim area. There may be an additional charge for extra baggage. Taxis are required to offer a credit card payment option.
A shuttle service is also available from the airport to the hotels in the Central Business District for $20 (per person, one-way) or $38 (per person, round-trip). Call 1(866)596-2699 or (504)522-3500 or visit Airport Shuttle New Orleans for more details or to make a reservation. Ticket booths are located on the lower level in the baggage claim area.
Getting around New Orleans
Getting around New Orleans is not practical via public transportation, so you should plan on taking cabs or renting a car. There are taxi stands at or near many downtown hotels. If you rent a car and are unfamiliar with New Orleans, you must understand that some major roads will be closed at times because of the Mardi Gras parades. Roads typically close an hour in advance of the parade along the route, and you can find schedules and route maps here. Street parking is fairly plentiful in New Orleans, but read the meter signs carefully to see when they are in operation.
